Most popular finishes include Polyurethane and Quartz bench tops. Although Polyurethane is available in high gloss and satin finishes it is not considered chip or scratch resistant. An alternative to this is alaminate called ‘Sheen”, is more chip resistant and comes with a matching PVC chip resistant edge.
Door Colour : Most popular are Antique white, white, alabaster, malt and cappuccino.
Bench / counter tops for kitchens come in a large range of colours and finishes. Quartz based bench tops are extremely hard wearing and very easy to maintain. Popular brands include Caesar Stone and Quantum Quartz. These are available in various thicknesses, but 20mm and 40mm are the most popular. Granite is also available and is easily maintained by polishing with Mr. Sheen.
Another alternative if the budget does not allow for a stone top is the new hard wearing, scratch resistant, stone look laminate bench tops.
These look like real quartz and granite but are less than half the price.
Handles : fortunately are large choice, so you can make your kitchen as individual and as stylish as your heart desires. Handles are more popular than Knobs. Brushed stainless steel or polished chrome are the hardest and most popular.
Sinks : One and three quarter and one and a half bowl sinks are the favoured. Flush mounted sinks allow for drainage area while under mounted sinks used with stone tops have no drainer.
Range Hoods : Slide out range hoods and Canopy range hoods are popular choices. Curved canopy range hoods must have wall tiles or glass splashbacks behind them otherwise it could look unattractive. Also, when using curved canopy range hoods, the filters do not cover the full width of the hood and this could mean that it would be less effective than a straight fronted canopy hood with full width filters.
Splash backs : Glass splash backs are becoming very popular but usually works out costing 3 to 4 times more than a tiled splash backs. One advantage is there is no grout to clean or discolour. Ceramic wall tiles are still popular particularly in a larger size (200mm High x 600mm wide) .
